nothing is certain but death and taxes

This was me last night after doing our taxes, when I realized we OWE federal taxes instead of the hunky refund I was expecting:

There were screams. There were tears. There was a panicked phone call to my tax genius mother who talked me off the ledge, giving a whole new meaning to fiscal cliff. I guess this is what happens when you're successful and go up a few tax brackets.

Also, that quote about death and taxes? I get it now. You do your taxes, then you want to die. Or kill the people responsible. Either/or.

  3. Haha- my Mom used to say that to me when I said she had to do something. "I don't have to do anything but pay taxes, and die." It makes it sound less crazy that you know that saying too lol.

  4. Oh no! Withholdings and tax brackets are stressful and frustrating. I love doing other people's taxes, but never, ever, ever my own. That always induces a certain amount of panic.

  5. NOOO BARF that sounds like the worst I'm so sorry!! I still mooch off of my parents 'tax guy', I basically just hand over all of my W-2's to my dad and pray that he hands me back a check and not a bill. FINGERS CROSSED.

    Ron Swanson was right, though.

  6. Reese had to pay taxes last year and I really thought he was going to punch the wall. He is NOT violent. I understand. Government... shake my head.

  9. Taxes suck. Although, every time we do get a refund I can't help but think, "We just lent the government interest-free money and didn't even get it all back..."

  10. Ugh, that STINKS. This will probably be the last year we get a refund back... and it's only because we have so many student loans we're paying interest on. Hoping to be debt free in about a year and then we can start paying more taxes- Weeeeee! ;)

  12. UGH. We are hoping we don't owe anything. I hope not. Breakdown to come, possibly.

  13. Yup. This is our first year owing money. I feel like Dwight. He represents my feelings pretty well in that picture.

  15. I should be getting a nice little chunk of change back.
especially with how much they have been taking out of my paychecks.
Also, there is always tuition. That always guarantees me at least something.

I'm sorry you owed. That sucks. and even worse because you weren't expecting it. :(
but that gif is spot on. love it.
