fall questions

In case you forget what trees look like:

This is silly and frivolous, but several of my friends and have done this and it looked like fun. And it's Friday, and it's fall, and LET'S BE GLAD WE LIVE IN A WORLD WITH----jk, I won't subject you to that Anne of Green Gables quote. But I'm really glad I live in a world with flannel pajamas sets. Hashtag granny life.

1. Favorite Fall Sweet Treat? Pumpkin pie. Or Trader Joe's pumpkin bread. HELLO.

2. Red, Yellow or Green Apples? Honeycrips. Which are...red and green? I just ate one, I should know, and yet I'm blanking.

3. Favorite Fall Sport to Play? LOL

4. Best Drink for Fall?  Spiced cider and harvest tea from Trader Joe's because they basically taste the same.

5. Favorite Fall Activity? Hiking/going on walks to enjoy the leaves. I have a tradition I made up years ago: on Halloween, I go for a walk or drive to see the gorgeous scenery while listening to Christmas music.

6. Must have Fall Purchase? A cozy cardigan. Also all things from pumpkin from Trader Joe's because I'm a sucker for seasonal marketing.

7. Pumpkins: Pick your own or store bought? Picking them is fun, but store bought is so much cheaper.

8. Real or Fake Pumpkin? Real, though I have some fake ones inside.

9. College Football or NFL?  I'm not a football person, but I do occasionally watch Ohio State games. So college.

10. Favorite Fall Memory?  WHERE DO I BEGIN? My freshman fall semester of college, the fall of 2008 when I started school at ECU and spent chilly evenings lying in a hammock on a front porch listening to music with my guy friends, dressing up for Halloween as a kid but then, of course, going to a Harvest Festival at church like all good Christian kids in the 1990s (sidenote: our next door neighbors went ALL OUT for Halloween and made a haunted house in their garage--I think of it every year and miss how fun it was), and every October when I put the flannel sheets on the bed and light the first fire and live my best life now.

11. Raking Leaves or no Leaves to Rake? I'm not sure I've ever raked leaves...maybe as a kid? I have no opinion on this other than piles of dying leaves make me sneeze, but they sure are pretty.

12. Favorite Soup? Broccoli cheddar? French Onion? Beef stew? I could never choose.

13. Favorite Fall Candle scent? Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin from B&BW. It smells exactly like a candle my mom burned during the fall when I was a kid, so it makes me sentimental and nostalgic.

14. Love or Hate Pumpkin Spice? Love, just not in a Starbucks drink, which is a new thing for me. PSLs officially gross me out now. They're so sweet I can taste the diabetes. I never thought I'd utter those words.

15. Short Booties or Tall boots?  Tall. Booties (petition to change that word to something less gross?) look weird on me, but I like them on other people.

16. PSL (Pumpkin Spice Latte): YES or NO? Not from Starbucks. But I'm still thinking about that butternut squash and pumpkin latte I had in Iowa. I like my lattes the way I like my flannel pajamas: cheap, uncomplicated, and overly hot.

17. Hayride or Corn Maze? I haven't done either one for a very long time. I did a corn maze as a kid, but the last time I was on a hayride was in college. For one semester, I went to a tiny little college in southern Ohio that was literally ON A FARM. A large farm that's part of a restaurant chain, but still, a farm. I went on a hayride around the farm with some friends a few weeks into school. So if you're wondering it I partied a lot in college, the answer is yes. Obviously.

18. Favorite Fall TV Show? GILMORE GIRLS. Rory getting her Chilton uniform and going to the Stars Hollow Fall Festival is the most festive thing that could ever happen on tv. If we're talking current shows on TV that came back this fall, then This Is Us and Designated Survivor.

    1. I thought it was such a hard time while I was going through that semester, but looking back it was one of the most fun times I've had in my entire life. I'll treasure those months forever!

  3. This is making me homesick for falltimes in Ohio!!! (Those four years of college had some great fall memories. Oklahoma just doesn't know how to do falltime...) I finally drank a hot cup of cider last week, and immediately, my whole body and mind clicked into "Falltime mode." Prior to that cider, I knew that it technically was falltime, but I just wasn't feeling it. Cider is magical. And you know, I love pumpkin, but I've only had something pumpkiny once (when a friend gave me a slice of pumpkin bread)! Sweet potatoes were really cheap at the store, though, so the toddler and I have had sweet potatoes for 4-5 meals so far this week. I like to think that it's my way of embracing falltime and being healthy, but that may be cancelled out by the fact that I drench them in pure maple syrup haha.

Have you tried making a PSL? That way you could control the sweetness level (though it does mean going through the work of making it). I've been slowly integrating more Paleo recipes into my life in an attempt to eat less sugar, and I once found a Paleo PSL recipe online, which I may even try sometime.

  4. "Like all good Christian kids in the 90s"...HAHA yep.

I need to get me some cider soon. Also, I have some powdered chai mix and I totally want to try an at-home chaider.

God forbid BBW ever discontinue Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin, Marshmallow Fireside or Fresh Balsam. I will boycott.

  6. I love your Halloween tradition! I haven't had a PSL in a few years so I got one last week just to see what I was missing out on, and for $5.25, it was majorly unimpressive. So sweet!!

  7. Honeycrisp are a) the most delicious apples and b) red, I think...
"3. Favorite Fall Sport to Play? LOL" - yepyepyepyep!
Your Halloween tradition is the greatest. I don't know if I could get myself in the mindset to do that (Nov. 1 is the start of my Christmas season, ha), but I love it.
    Broccoli cheddar soup foreverrr.

  8. I misread that and thought you said you went on a hayride for a couple weeks and I was really impressed. They do things differently in Ohio!

So if not booties, would you prefer shooties? I like my footwear to be borderline inappropriate. Booties and thongs and I'm basically starting in a Nelly song.

  9. I second the Gilmore Girls answer. I also am a huge sucker for Trader Joe's fall items. They know how to get us.
